Bar investments doing well

first_imgThe Florida Bar’s investment portfolio has continued its recent trend of excellent performance.Investment Committee Chair Ian Comisky reported to the Board of Governors at its October meeting that for the third quarter, which ended September 30, “We had a tremendous quarter, an absolute blowout.”Overall, the investments earned $831,000, bringing the value of the portfolio — which is made up of reserve and contingency funds and other monies not needed for immediate Bar operations — to around $18 million.Part of that success came from changes the committee made, with board approval, in the past year in changing the fund managers the Bar hired to direct the investments. The investments are split between large, medium, and small cap stock funds as well as bond and international funds. On a related matter, Comisky noted that aside from its investment of long-term funds, the Bar also has a short-term fund where it deposits dues payments and other funds that are expected to be needed during the coming Bar year. The fund has grown in recent years, he said, and the committee felt it would be safe and conservative to transfer $5 million to the long-term fund. That will enable a better rate of return to be realized, he said. After discussion, the board approved that change.Comisky said the committee is also studying diversifying the investments in the long-term fund, but has reached no conclusions. Possibilities, he said, include real estate investment trusts, hedge funds, and possibly commodity funds. The goal, Comisky said, is to improve the fund’s return without increasing risk. He said the committee hoped to have a presentation for the board in December. Bar investments doing well Bar investments doing wellcenter_img November 15, 2005 Regular Newslast_img read more

Espanyol sack Coach Gallego, appoint replacement

first_imgRelatedPosts Suarez scores as Barca condemn neighbours Espanyol to relegation Espanyol all but relegated after defeat by visiting Leganes Aspas strikes late to blunt Barca’s title bid Espanyol have sacked coach David Gallego eight games into the season and replaced him with former Sevilla and Girona manager Pablo Machin, the Spanish side said in a statement on Monday.Gallego leaves Espanyol second bottom in the standings on five points, with the club winning one La Liga game, drawing two and losing five. The final straw for the club was the 2-0 defeat by fellow strugglers Real Mallorca on Sunday. The coach did have some success in European football, however, leading them past three qualifying rounds to make it into the Europa League group stage, picking up four points from their opening two games.Gallego’s successor Machin had sustained success with fellow Catalan side Girona, leading them into Spain’s top flight for the first time in 2017 and finishing 10th in La Liga the following season.Machin’s work with Girona earned him the role at Sevilla where he made a strong start as the team made an early tilt for the title before fading away, and he was relieved of his duties in March. Tank team await test results

first_img Owner Barry Connell expects the picture to become clearer after the weekend. “Nothing has come to light yet but we haven’t had the results of his tests,” said Connell. “No conclusion can be brought yet, but we expect something to show up when we get the results at the weekend. “There was something wrong as he should have run better than that.” Connections of The Tullow Tank are awaiting the results of tests which were carried out after he finished a well-beaten fifth in the Drinmore Novice Chase on Sunday. A dual Grade One winner over hurdles for Philip Fenton, he was the late Dessie Hughes’ final winner on his debut over fences at the beginning of November. Now in the care of Sandra Hughes, he was sent off favourite for one of the best renewals of the Drinmore for many years but he ran a lacklustre race. center_img Press Associationlast_img read more
