Swimming Towards Health

Who doesn’t like cooling one’s self down, splashing happily with friends, while enjoying a feeling of weightlessness? But swimming is more than that. It’s a complete workout that has a plethora of health benefits for both young and old.Swimming for just 30 minutes does more good than running or hitting the gym the same amount of time. Consider, 30 minutes of swimming:– burns 200 to 350 calories– boosts metabolism the same way 45 minutes to an hour’s worth of land based exercise does– reduces blood pressure– lowers the risk of cancer by strengthening the immune system– at least once a week, can cut the risk of early death significantly– increases energy levels– improves mood and reduces stress, anxiety and depressionEven those at an advanced age can enjoy the benefits of swimming. Especially since swimming is known to reduce the risk of osteoporosis, and type 2 diabetes.Feeling older than your age suggests? Research shows that swimmers are biologically 20 years younger than their actual age. So instead of resting your tired legs, hitting the pool 30 minutes a day, up to three times a week will make you feel younger, literally. Those suffering from neck and back pain would be pleased to know that swimming also strengthens the muscles in the back, shoulders, arms, legs, and neck, improving the state of whatever pain ails you. Additionally, swimming can also overcome pains stemming from a herniated disc, pinched nerve and bone spurs. The benefits of swimming are indeed vast and varied, but as with all things, keep things in moderation. Overdoing your workout can strain your muscles causing more injuries, while swimming without proper stretching beforehand can lead to potential damage. Before you go out and swim your way to health, it is important to consult with a doctor or physical therapist to ensure that you are not putting yourself at risk for further injury. If all is right, and you don’t over exert yourself, swimming may be the only form of exercise you’ll ever need. And you’ll do it all without that sweaty feeling.Head on down to Waterworks Pasadena today at 2290 East Foothill Blvd., and discover for yourself how to swim for your health.Visit http://www.waterworksswim.com/pasadena or call (626) 836-1200 for more details. The Centre has attempted to dispel the aforementioned impression and submits that the Court must consider the “serious, sincere and constructive efforts made by the Central Government to engage with the limited number of protesting farmers who are opposing the Act”. ‘You Made A Law Without Enough Consultation’ : Supreme Court’s Key Observations On Farm Laws, Farmers Protests The Affidavit goes on to state that the protest is limited to only one section of the country, and that the majority of the farmers “are not only happy with the legislations but are finding these legislations to be progressive and in their interest as substantially they are having one more option than the existing option”. Therefore, it has been requested to not treat the agitation as a reflection on the validity or the efficacy of the laws. It has been highlighted in the Affidavit that protestors have fully and partially blocked seven and four roads respectively, and that with the impending Republic Day ceremony, “any disruption or obstruction in the said functions would not only be against the law and order, public order, public interest but would also be a huge embarrassment for the nation”. The Affidavit then lays down the steps taken by the Government of India prior to legislating the laws. “…Government of India has been thus, actively and intensively engaging with the States for about two decades to achieve the aforesaid objectives of reforms…”#FarmersProtest :Centre files affidavit in Supreme Court saying :(a) farm laws are not hurriedly made but result of 2 decades of deliberations.(b) farmers of nation are happy with laws as they give an additional options(c)Centre has done best to engage with farmers. pic.twitter.com/XKKjEp7Syu— Live Law (@LiveLawIndia) January 11, 2021 The Centre said that farmers unions are not coming for talks with open mind. It said ‘Representatives of Farmers’ Unions came with pre-occupied mind & instead of discussing the dispute rationally they raised placards with “YES or NO” to repeal the stated three Farm Reform Laws’.It further said there is “a deliberate wrong perception created systematically by non-farmer elements present at the protest site and using media / social media” to create misgivings in the mind of farmers about the farm laws.It has further been submitted that “as a responsible Government, it has taken all conceivable steps” to have an effective dialogue to remove any misgivings and to also ensure that specific grievances of agitating farmers are “discussed and sorted out so far as possible”. The Affidavit further contends that the “apprehensions, misgivings and misconceptions” of some of the farmers and their Unions have created by “some vested interest people, which have moved from Punjab to in and around Delhi”, and that the “Union Government is committed for the socio-economic empowerment of the farmers through better market and price for their produce”. It concludes on the note that the laws “were not enacted overnight but were the result of suggestions by various experts and recommendations by varied Committees/Groups over the last 20 years”. Earlier today, a Bench headed by CJI SA Bobde hinted that it will stay the implementation of the three farm laws, in order to prevent violence and breaking of laws. “You tell us if you will put on hold the implementation of the laws. Otherwise we will do it. What is the problem in keeping it in abeyance?”, the CJI asked the Attorney General. It observed that a Committee needs to be appointed to resolve the deadlock between the Government which wants a clause by clause consideration of the legislations and the farmers, who want that the laws to be completely repealed. “Staying the implementation of laws and staying the law are different. We can always stay executive action under a law. Who will be responsible if any bloodshed happens?” said CJI SA Bobde while hearing a batch of petitions challenging the Farm Laws/ seeking removal of protesting farmers from Delhi borders. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who opposed the stay order during the hearing, has sought a day’s time to suggest names for the Committee. Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave, appearing for a farmers group, suggested the name of former CJI RM Lodha as a member of the Committee.Orders in the matter will be pronounced tomorrow. Stacy Flowers receives post-graduate degree from Oxford

first_imgLatest Stories Plans underway for historic Pike County celebration Pike County Sheriff’s Office offering community child ID kits Sponsored Content Stacy Flowers, formerly of Troy, received the Oxford Diploma in Strategy and Innovation from the University of Oxford. Her parents, James and Rhonda Flowers of Troy, attended her graduation ceremony in Oxford on June 30. Remember America’s heroes on Memorial Day Classes for the Oxford Diploma in Strategy and Innovation began in January 2011 and classes were held in the hallowed halls of Oxford. Flowers had to cross the ocean six times to attend weeklong, 12-hour a day classes.“When I realized that I had been accepted, I knew that challenges would be enormous,” Flowers said. “Being in class for the first time was intimidating and I was determined that I would not say a word.”But, that was not Stacy Flowers’ way. In a short time, she realized that she could contribute to the discussions and the debates.“We interacted with the top Oxford professors and others from consultants to Parliament to knights,” she said. “It was very interesting work. We would talk about what was happening in different countries, for example Brazil and India, and what we saw coming down the line. There were many points to argue so you always had to stay on top of your game.” The Oxford Diploma in Strategy and Innovation is designed to offer students the insight and understanding needed to lead organizations in a complex global business environment. The focus is on strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship in an international business context. For the post-graduate diploma program, 200 applications were accepted. After an extensive interview process, 36 students were accepted into the program. Only six of those were women and Flowers was the only student from a non-profit organization.“I didn’t really expect to be accepted,” Flowers said. “Among those accepted were CEOs of international corporations, government dignitaries and political dignitaries. It was such an honor to be among that group of students. They came from around the globe. I didn’t know if I could hold my own with them.” At the close of each module, the students were given an exam in a very strict, rigid setting. Very much what you would expect at Oxford, Flowers said.“We were bused to exams from Said Business School to the Examination School,” she said. “We would have to leave our belongings – including purse, cell phones, computers or any items – locked at the business school. The only items allowed were a pen or pencil, ID card and examination/student number. Otherwise, we were given a case study, two questions and two hours to write. In some cases, our proctors were in full robe screaming, ‘Silence.’ It never lacked for drama.”The exams were blind graded by experts on the subject matter. There was no margin for error.“If you did not make your marks, you were out of the program,” Flowers said. “The tests were not gimmies.”Back home in Washington D.C., Flowers had to juggle work and preparations for the next class at Oxford.“I had to study for the next exam and do the pre-readings for the next class,” she said. “A final research project was assigned and you had to do pre-work for your dissertation. Your final research project determined whether you received a diploma. It was difficult to balance a fulltime job in D.C. with being a student at Oxford. It was an incredible year and I could not breathe a sigh of relief until I received the final marks on the research paper.”Even then, Flowers said she could not comprehend what it meant to earn a post-graduate diploma from the University of Oxford.“When I put on that cap and gown, I was surprised and shocked to have gotten to that point,” Flowers said. “Truthfully, this opportunity was more than I had hoped or dreamed. I was able to work with internationally honored professors and business professionals that challenged me to change the way I approach decisions in business and life. It was an honor to be involved with such an incredible group of people.”Peter Tufano, Peter Moores Dean of the Said Business School said that Oxford has been educating leaders for 800 years.“This diploma and the students who take it are part of a distinguished tradition of excellence,” he said.Flowers is a graduate of Charles Henderson High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Troy University and a MBA from Auburn University. Her parents, James and Rhonda Flowers of Troy, attended the graduation ceremony in Oxford on June 30.“It was a thrill to have my parents share this experience with me,” Flowers said. “This was an experience that I’ll never forget and one that will be of great benefit now and in the future. I am so thankful for this wonderful opportunity.” By Jaine Treadwell Troy falls to No. 13 Clemson You Might Like Artbridges workshop is about experimentation Tara Sartorius, leader and director of the Tony Scott ArtBridges Educational Teacher’s Workshop, shared ideas with Nikki Allen, Goshen Elementary… read morecenter_img Troy native Stacy Flowers received the Oxford Diploma in Strategy and Innovation from the University of Oxford, Oxford, United Kingdom on June 30.Flowers, director of Community Economic Development, Community Action Partnership in Washington D.C., was one of 36 students from 20 countries around the globe who were selected for the prestigious post-graduate diploma program.
