No Michelle Morente for La Salle in UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball

MANILA, Philippines—Michelle Morente caused some stir when she left Ateneo and transferred to De La Salle in September 2017. Morente, though, won’t be suiting up at all for the Lady Spikers in women’s volleyball with the defending champions instead slotting in former University of Perpetual Help star Lourdes Clemente in the final lineup for Season 81.Morente represented De La Salle in the UAAP Season 81 beach volleyball tournament and her inclusion in the first-semester sport meant that she’s exhausted all her playing years in the UAAP.Clemente, who passed the UAAP’s mandatory eligibility period for a student coming in from the NCAA, meanwhile, will play out her fifth collegiate playing year as a Masters student after graduating with a degree in Tourism at Perpetual. With her collegiate career over, Morente will suit up for F2 Logistics in the Philippine Super Liga to play with former La Salle stars Kianna Dy, Dawn Macandili, and Mary Joy Baron who all graduated from the school in 2018.Another player not included in a Season 81 lineup is former U-17 attacker Nicole Magsarile for University of Santo Tomas.ADVERTISEMENT Olympic volunteers: One-time chance, or exploitation? Rafa Benitez says Newcastle derby hero can fire club to Premier League safety

first_img Aleksandar Mitrovic celebrates scoring Newcastle’s equaliser against Sunderland Rafael Benitez is backing Aleksandar Mitrovic to fire Newcastle out of relegation trouble after watching him drag them back from the brink of a derby disaster. The Serbia international’s 83rd-minute header secured a 1-1 draw with Sunderland at St James’ Park, although with both sides desperately needing victories to lever themselves out of the Barclays Premier League drop zone, celebrations were muted. It was just the £14.5million striker’s sixth goal for the club he joined last summer, but manager Benitez is confident he can score more if he is given the right kind of service and support. He said: “I said before that he has the potential. We have to help him a little bit with better crosses, better deliveries and support and get closer to him, but he will score goals if we can do that.“We are creating chances, we are attacking and we can be there, so we have to improve this part of the game and create more chances and Mitrovic or Papiss Cisse or the other strikers will score more goals and we will be fine.”Newcastle remain in 19th place in the table, one position and a single point behind their neighbours with eight games to play, but three points adrift of safety. It would have been even more had Mitrovic – who finished the game on the sidelines on medical advice after being knocked unconscious – not rescued them following Jermain Defoe’s 44th-minute opener. The Black Cats were comfortably the better side before the break, but once again failed to kill the game off and succumbed at the death, much to the frustration of manager Sam Allardyce.Allardyce said: “The consolation for me is that we have been in a position to win every game we have played recently, and particularly when we score the first goal, so we are doing most things right by taking control of the game, scoring the first goal, but just not managing to see that through into a victory.“That’s the last thing we have got to try to change, and we have got to change it right now. We are now in a position of must-win – draws are not going to be good enough for us now. For me, we have got to win four out of the last eight.” 1last_img read more
