India will do well in the fifth ODI against New Zealand: Harbhajan Singh

first_imgHarbhajan Singh has backed the Indian team to bounce back strongly in the fifth and final one day international against New Zealand on Sunday and win the series 4-1. India suffered a crushing 8-wicket defeat in the fourth ODI in Hamilton on Thursday after they collapsed to their lowest-ever ODI total in the New Zealand.India were ruthless in the first three ODIs under Virat Kohli but failed to get going under swinging conditions, getting bowled out for 92 in Hamilton. New Zealand paceman Trent Boult bowled 10 overs at a stretch and ran through India’s batting order in swing-friendly conditions to finish with 5 for 21.Chasing 93 for a win, New Zealand overhauled the target with 8 wickets in hand and 212 deliveries to spare.”To be very honest it has been very good year for Team India in the limited-overs cricket. We shouldn’t be really worried about that one loss. I am pretty confident the boys will come back stronger in the final ODI. Even though Virat Kohli is not there, MS Dhoni will comeback in the team and guide them,” Harbhajan told India Today.Harbhajan also said it was just one-off those games where Indian batting did not click.”Swinging ball is a problem for every batsman. I shouldn’t be too worried with what happened in the previous game. It was just one-off those games and I am sure India will do well in the fifth game. During the World Cup in England, wickets will be good and fantastic to bat on so I am not too worried,” he said.advertisementHarbhajan also said that there was no need try out new players now with World Cup just a few months away.”I think there is no need to try any new player now. They [middle order] have been playing some good cricket for quite a while now. MS Dhoni’s form is a big relief for all of us. Ambati [Rayudu] has done well, he has got that technique to tackle spin and pace. I have played a lot of cricket with him and he is very good batsmen. Maybe he is not having the best of the times but I am confident he will come good,” Harbhajan said.Harbhajan Singh added that only a century will put Shubman Gill in contention for the World Cup. Gill had scored 9 off 21 balls on his debut in the fourth ODI.”There is an opportunity for young Shubman Gill to shine in the final ODI. If he scores a hundred tomorrow [on Sunday], he may get into contention for the World Cup squad,” he said. After the ODI series, India and New Zealand play a three-match Twenty20 International series from February 6.Also Read | Team India sweats it out in Wellington ahead of 5th ODI against New ZealandAlso Read | James Neesham on MS Dhoni: You haven’t won the game until you have got him outAlso Read | Can’t draw conclusions after one failure, says Sanjay BangarAlso Read | Fit-again MS Dhoni set to return for 5th ODI in Wellingtonlast_img read more
