Herrera defends Mourinho after ‘strange’ Manchester United pre-season in USA

first_imgManchester United midfielder Ander Herrera defended manager Jose Mourinho for his comments regarding the club’s ‘bad’ pre-season at the United States of America.United, who are without 70 per cent of their first-team players according to their manager, won and drew two matches each and lost one in their two-eek long pre-season tour of America.Mourinho has constantly cribbed about the lack of first-team players and the quality of the games being played in USA. Not only that, but he even looked unhappy about the lack of transfer business so far. But, Herrera feels that Mourinho isn’t unhappy about the quality of games or transfes but because of the fact that he is not being able to work on tactics with the first team. He added that all that matters is getting ready for the Premier League season that gets underway on August 10 against Leicester for United. Also read – Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof to join United early after Jose Mourinho plea”This is my fifth pre-season and it’s the most strange pre-season here so far. The most important thing is to get minutes and be ready for the game against Leicester. That’s all that matters.””But probably he’s not frustrated about the club or the market, he’s probably frustrated because he’s not able to work with the players that he’s going to have for the season. Other teams they are able to do that. ‘For example, we played against Liverpool and they had maybe 80 per cent of their squad ready, Milan maybe 90 per cent of their squad.advertisement”I can understand the manager and if I put myself in his position, I would be in the same situation. I agree with him (Mourinho) because it must be difficult for him to work with a group of players that maybe he is going to have 50 percent of them in the future.”You cannot really work tactically because you would think the guys that are working could be leaving or going on loan or they are going to the second team, so it’s difficult for him. ‘The only thing that we can say is that we want to be ready for the start of the season and I think the most intelligent thing would have been to postpone the start of the season by maybe one week,” Herrera said. Also read – Jose Mourinho suggests holidaying Manchester United players to return earlyHowever, Mourinho will have some respite as first-team players Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof have all decided to cut their holidays short and join the squad in time to be available for the first game of the season.United, who signed off from their United States trip with a 2-1 win over Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday, will next face Bayern Munich on August 5 at Allianz Arena.
