NSWTA State Cup – Day One

first_imgThe NSWTA State Cup commenced on Friday, 5 December 2008 on a day that had everything. In what has become a tradition for the annual NSWTA State Cup in Port Macquarie, the heavens opened in the morning only for the sun to shine through later in the day. The stars were also shining on the stadium field of the Port Macquarie Regional Stadium. The mercurial Benji Marshall showed how he recently claimed a Rugby League World Cup medal and his silky skills emphasising why he has become such a sensation for Wests Tigers and the New Zealand Rugby League team. The speed, step, and smooth passes from Benji helped Wests to be one of the three unbeaten Men’s Open teams from Day One of competition.Hornsby Lions Dylan Hennessey was again in sensational form and despite Benji’s presence, showed to the delight of the crowd why he is rated the hottest player in the game at the moment. The Lions had a draw with the Canterbury Bulldogs in the first round in what may be a Grand Final preview.Easts won both their games but will have to lift if they wish to repeat their efforts from 2007. Penrith are the third team with two wins from two games in the Men’s Open.In the Women’s Open, Wollongong, Canterbury and Easts are all undefeated. Wests had a disappointing day losing to both Canterbury and Easts and will need to find form to challenge for the title.Further results can be found from the NSWTA State Cup website – http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?assoc=856&pID=14last_img
